OpenOffice.org 1.1.1 Released

The OpenOffice.org team has released version 1.1.1 of their office suite. You can download a copy for just about every operating system out there. I've been using OOo as my main word processor for a couple of months now. There was a learning curve coming from WordPerfect, but it wasn't too bad. Before you fork over the cash for the latest version of MS Office, give OpenOffice.org a try. What do you have to lose?

J.t.Qbe comments: Half the time MS Word/Office on my work-supplied computer won't run. I finally got fed up and installed OO. I've used it for several major projects with no problems or complaints about compatibility with the "company standard". MS doesn't like OO, naturally, but give it a try: it works, it's free, and IMO it's better than MS Office. As A.T. said, what do you have to lose (besides your rage and frustration)?

The Master comments: The irony here is that Microsoft is now claiming that hardware, not software, should be free. Kind of stupid, considering the cost of manufacturing hardware. Hardware requires natural resources and manufacturing space to turn them into finished products. Software, really, requires nothing more than a couple of servers, internet connections, and a lot of dedicated programmers. And therein lies the power of the FOSS community. I'm not shocked that Microsoft wants software to cost money. Software development is their bread and butter, and the creator of their massive stupid-huge pile of cash.
